On Friday, Stoel and Tommy went over our next assignment in which began by researching a selected country, where we all individually chose out of a hat. For this assignment, we are to study and explore the information we find, on the internet, about social media and social networking on this specific country. The country I chose was New Zealand.
As I researched farther and farther in depth about New Zealand and about their media and networking I found some interesting statistics on the use of the internet in New Zealand. New Zealand Government WEB STANDARDS site states that it is founded that " 78% of people whom reside in New Zealand use the internet, of which 27% use it to post messages, 34% post images, and 10% have a blog site. " The most interesting of the statistics I found was that 28% of people there use a social networking site on weekly basis. When I think of social networking the first thing to come to mind is Facebook and Myspace. As these networks have become so large in the United States I was curious to see how engaged New Zealand was, especially on Facebook. Searching, I came across a website which was actually a blog on New Zealands Social Media User Statistic of July 2010. I have attached an image showing the use of Facebook, one of the largest social networks.

Living in the US social networking and media are an everyday use, found to be much more popular than other countries. Seeing these networks such as myspace, twitter, and Facebook as just an everyday norm, it astonished me how highly used it is in a much different cultural area, like New Zealand.
