Being part of the black sea group I was to do a piece found in the abstract: form and progress section. Abstract pieces being some of my favorite kinda really had caught my interest when walking into the Greesboro Collection Gallery. This piece in particular, Frank Holliday (American, 1958), Rafael 2000, created a sense movement. Using oil on canvas, the colors and the shapes create a great sense of unity. The repetition in shapes and the variation of size in these shapes keep the spectator wondering why the directions were used in such a way and what is the reasoning behind these particular details being in the places they are placed. I find the contrast between the deep tones and bright uplifting tones to be very visually pleasing, it is as if it all speaks as individual elements yet harmonize all as one. Although there are no direct lines created, the movement throughout draws an invisible line with your eyes having you follow throughout the picture, all around the canvas and not just focusing on one focal point. This painting seems as though it is telling a chaotic story, but the viewers have the space to read it as they please. This ties into architecture. There are pieces that are found to be very deliberate and very precise in what it means, but there are also architectural spaces, places, and buildings that give a sense of "what is this trying to tell me" question yet comes out to be a beautiful thing.
